This course is designed for healthcare professionals, guides, and outdoor instructors who provide medical care in remote and austere environments, with access to medical support. Participants are expected to have a solid foundation in first aid prior to enrolment.
The course is divided into five units, offering a comprehensive introduction to prescription only medicines (POMs). It is estimated to take 2–3 hours to complete. At the end of the course, you will be required to undertake a final assessment. Successful completion of the assessment enables registration with Endeavour Medical, authorising you to obtain specific POMs through ScripTrip, our partner online pharmacy. These medications can only be used outside of the UK and when you are far from definitive medical help.
Please note that intramuscular ceftriaxone, dexamethasone and cyclizine are only available to those holding a valid Wilderness First Responder (WFR) qualification. If you are enrolled as a WFR candidate, you will receive access to the POMs course via your joining instructions and do not need to purchase it separately.
The POMs certificate is valid for two years.
Purchasing through the Endeavour Medical website provides access to the course via Coassemble, the online learning platform.
